I liked her sort-of-friendship with Hannah. The twist of Will being "Steven" I didn't see coming. Olivia (the bridesmaid) - out of all the narrating characters, she's the one I felt most bad for. Jules (the bride) - she seemed like a materialistic influencer type, although I did feel bad for her, she did seem like a control freak most of the time, I didn't like how she'd treat her sister Olivia. I'll give a little breakdown of each character: It was also a bit confusing going back and forth between every character in first person. This book I felt was full of pretty one-dimensional characters, and almost all were pretty unlikeable. I found this book a bit slow at the beginning, I definitely feel the story didn't really take off until the wedding finally started, but once things got going, I found myself flipping back and re-reading parts that went over my head.

Jess isn’t fully convinced that GeneticAlly is accurate, she entertains it with skepticism, intrigue, and sarcasm all at once. She also happens to have a strong support system between her grandparents and best friend. Jess is super relatable as a single mom who is struggling financially to make ends meet even though she’s quite good at what she does for a living. Sort of hate-to-love if you can actually hate someone you don’t really know? Think more along the lines of modern day heartwarming tale on the lower end of the steam scale between two individuals who would make quite the odd pairing if you’re only matching by personality. The guy who is hot AF but is always on the go to even consider his surroundings. That is until she matches at 98% with one of the app developers!!! □ the same guy who walks into the coffee shop every day with ZERO social skills. Finding a soulmate through DNA sounds far fetched and she thinks her odds are low. Jess and her BFF Fizzy hear about GeneticAlly a match making company that is in its early stages of testing. She’s felt abandoned way too many times and doesn’t want to put her daughter through that again. Single mom Jess Davis is a statistician convinced that the dating scene is just not for her. EGalley provided by Publisher in exchange for an honest review, a ll quotes come from an advance copy and may not match the final release Yet even with great stories I find myself returning to McDermid's books because of the characters. The plot is as tight as any she has written, and that is saying a lot. Each case is twisty and where it seems like there might crossover we are kept wondering. That said, I would recommend reading the entire series because, well, it is just that good. The cases here are concurrent yet we aren't sure whether they are connected. You may not fully grasp some of the back and forth but any important things from the past will be discussed in a way that offers a new reader enough information to keep up. What more can you ask for? While this is part of a series (a very good series!) I think it can be read as a standalone without too much problem. Great plot, wonderful characters, and propulsive prose. Still Life (Inspector Karen Pirie, #6) is yet another wonderful novel from Val McDermid. The story of Brenin and the "car-deck guy" reappears in The Philosopher and the Wolf. And you can't hold a person or a creature morally responsible for something over which he or it has no control. Reflecting on his off-the-cuff response to the man on the ferry, Rowlands came to see that the reason he hadn't blamed Brenin for wrecking the car was that the wolf was not a "moral agent" - it was not capable, in other words, of evaluating its actions in terms of abstract moral principles. Rowlands assured him that he didn't, and that in any case he couldn't hold Brenin responsible for what he'd done. The man hesitated, fearing that Rowlands intended to kill the animal. When he returned to the car deck to survey the damage, Rowlands asked an attendant if he could borrow a knife to cut down what remained of the car's ceiling panels. The wolf reacted to this confinement by destroying the inside of the vehicle - upholstery, seatbelts, the lot. Rowlands had locked Brenin in his car, leaving just a single window partly open. A few years ago, the philosopher Mark Rowlands began a book on animal rights by telling a story about a ferry crossing from Pembroke to Rosslare that he once made with his pet wolf, Brenin.
